Photo-thermal Growth of Unsaturated and Saturated Bragg Gratings in Phosphate Glass Fibers

چکیده
We demonstrate that the strong thermal growth of fiber Bragg gratings in phosphate glass fibers at temperatures between 100 – 250 °C requires the seed gratings written using 193 nm light to be overexposed beyond saturation. 2010 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: (060.3735) Fiber Bragg gratings; (060.3738) Fiber Bragg gratings, photosensitivity; (120.6810) Thermal effects; (060.2290) Fiber materials.

Photosensitivity and thermal stability of UV- induced fiber Bragg gratings in phosphate glass fibers
The photosensitivity of highly Er/Yb doped and undoped phosphate glass fibers is characterized under irradiation with intense pulsed 193 nm light from an ArF excimer laser through a phase mask. The ultraviolet photosensitivity of the active fibers is shown to be roughly half that of the passive fibers. We also demonstrate that the strong growth of the fiber Bragg grating reflectivity observed u...
متن کاملDirectly photoinscribed refractive index change and Bragg gratings in Ohara WMS-15 glass ceramic.
We inscribed thick volume gratings in WMS-15 glass ceramic by ultraviolet light at 193 and 248 nm. Unlike earlier work in ceramic materials, the inscription process modified the optical properties of the material without the need for any additional chemical or thermal processing. Experimental evidence from measurements of grating growth, thermal annealing, and spectral absorption indicates that...
متن کاملUltranarrow bandwidth moiré reflecting Bragg gratings recorded in photo-thermo-refractive glass.
An experimental demonstration of a moiré reflecting Bragg grating in photo-thermo-refractive glass is carried out. This narrowband filter is obtained by the recording of two reflecting Bragg gratings with different periods. Filters with central wavelength at 1550 nm, bandwidth of 50 pm, and transmission higher than 95% are demonstrated. The methods to decrease bandwidth to 1 pm are finally inve...
متن کاملThermal Stability of Photosensitive Bragg Gratings in Sputter-Deposited Germanosilicate Glass by
The thermal stability of photo-imprinted Bragg gratings formed in reactiveatmosphere, RF-magnetron sputtered germanosilicate thin films was evaluated in terms of point defect modifications observed during isochronal annealing. Optical and magnetic spectroscopes were utilized to evaluate structural relaxation in these sputtered glasses on both a local and medium-range size scale. Depending upon ...
متن کاملModeling of Gaussian beam diffraction on volume Bragg gratings in PTR glass
A detailed model of diffraction of Gaussian beams on plane uniform volume Bragg gratings based on a Kogelnik’s theory of coupled waves is presented. The model describes transmitting and reflecting gratings and takes into account spectral width and angular divergence of diffracted beams. Exact formulas for angular and spectral selectivity are derived. Conditions for Bragg diffraction based on co...
